This Privacy Policy describes how The Birding Lists Digest ("the Digest," "we," "us") at
digest.sialia.com handles information in connection with your use of
the site.
What the Digest does
The Digest aggregates messages posted to regional birding email listservs and other email-based messaging systems ("listservs") across the
United States and displays them, organized by region and category.
Information we collect
Content from listservs
The Digest aggregates messages sent to a number of regional birding email listservs. This includes the
subject line, message body, date, and the sender's "From" address as it appears on the original message.
Information from visitors to the site
- Browsing activity. Like most websites, our web server and analytics tools automatically
log standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps.
- Cookies. The site uses cookies set by Google Analytics, Google AdSense, and StatCounter
(see "Third-party services" below). We do not use cookies for our own account or login system, and browsing
the Digest does not require creating an account.
- Contact. If you email us directly (for example, to report an issue or ask a question),
we'll have whatever information you choose to include in that message.
How we use information
- To display aggregated listserv content on the site, organized and searchable by region/category.
- To understand overall site traffic and usage patterns (via analytics).
- To display advertising that helps cover hosting costs (via Google AdSense).
- To respond to questions or issues you send us directly.
We do not sell any information, and we do not use listserv content or site-visitor data for any purpose
beyond operating and maintaining the Digest.

The Digest retains listserv messages for 30 days, after which they are deleted from the site. We do not
keep a permanent or long-term archive of listserv content.
Children's privacy
The Digest is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. The
content on the site consists of aggregated listserv posts rather than user-submitted personal data.
Data security
We take reasonable steps to secure the systems that store and serve Digest content, including restricting
database access by role and using encrypted connections where applicable. No online service can guarantee
perfect security, and this policy doesn't promise a particular technical standard.
Your choices
- If you'd prefer that a message you sent to a listserv (including your email address) not appear in the
Digest, contact us and we will remove it.
- You can control cookies and ad personalization through your browser settings and through the Google
links above.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as the site or its practices change. The "last updated" date at
the top will reflect the most recent revision.
