Subject: [GABO-L] Burke bird mystery solved
I thought more about the bird and wondered if any meadowlarks lack the
bright yellow and black on the breast, & in reviewing meadowlark images
online I saw that fits the juvenile. So I believe the bird I observed was a
juvenile Eastern meadowlark. When I didn't see the meadowlark's signature
suit, I ruled it out, but I should have considered its various stages. A
good lesson in birding learned. We live on hay fields with lots of
meadowlarks in the summer but I've never noticed juveniles, so I'm going to
start looking more closely to see if I can observe more!
