Weather: Sunny with a few small clouds. Calm winds became a moderate southwest wind by the afternoon. Quite warm with temps reaching the upper 70s.
Raptor Observations: A mix of low and high migrants, though spotting was difficult with the blue skies. As expected Turkey Vultures were most numerous with 83. A moderate Sharp-shinned Hawk flight (19). Good Bald Eagle activity with seven migrating. Three late-day harriers. The only falcons were one kestrel and one Merlin. One juvenile Broad-winged Hawk in the late-afternoon.
Non-raptor Observations: International Space Station followed by SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket seen around 6:40am (NASA's SpaceX CRS-35 (35th Commercial Resupply Services mission))
Great Blue Heron, Belted Kingfisher, 2 Common Ravens, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Lincoln's Sparrow, Nashville Warbler, 2 Palm Warblers, 10 Yellow-rumped Warblers, 2 monarchs. https://ebird.org/checklist/S402102381
New species for season: Red-breasted Nuthatch
Predictions: TOMORROW: Intervals of clouds and sun. High 84F. Winds W at 5-10mph. Should be another pleasant day to be out. The winds may not get a lot of raptors moving, but clouds will help with spotting the ones that are. Expect light to moderate migration.
THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. High 66F. Winds ENE at 5-10mph. Expect light to moderate migration.
FRIDAY: A few morning showers then numerous thunderstorms the afternoon. High 76F. Winds SW at 10-20mph. Largely unfavorable conditions. Count will likely be shortened. ======================================================================== Report submitted by David Brown (<davidebrownpa...>) Ashland Nature Center information may be found at: www.delnature.org
