Subject: [NHBirds] 904 Common Nighthawks - Franklin Falls
There!  That's more like it!  Favorable SE winds combined with a date in the last week of August produced our first good count of the season.  The best part was that there was a steady flow - no huge groups -from when I started at 4:30 up until 7:30.  Note to nighthawk watchers:  I counted 116 Between 4:30 and 5:30, later this week I will even start at 4:00.  Over the course of the season, those extra counts add up.
So the big flock showed up just as Jan was walking by.  Wow!  How does she do that?!   Sunset watchers gathered tonight for another sunset of 10 on the "Franklin Falls Sunset Scale."
This week is the expected big push for the season.  Get thee to a nighthawk watch.  But not Concord.  Zeke has plenty of friends, helpers, assistants, and aides-de-camp.  Up here in Franklin I am solitary, wistful, and forlornful.  I need company, society, and help.  Here's my final offer: a fancy chocolate candy bar to the first 100 visitors to Franklin Falls, while supplies last.
On the way home tonight in the fading light a whip-poor-wiil flew across the road, capping off a good nightjar night.
