Weather: Interesting weather day. Much cooler than yesterday. Temps reached 70F, but it felt a lot cooler with a strong westerly and southerly winds at times. Clouds covered half the sky to start, increased as storms approached the area, then broke up a little bit around 1:00 EST. Drizzle during the 11:00 EST hour, then finally a storm hit at 2:45 EST.
Raptor Observations: Raptors were on the move from the start today, although not in as great a volume as yesterday. Flight slowed down when rain threatened during the 11:00 hour. I thought it was done at 12:00, but one final scan showed red-tails and a couple of eagles up in the distance, so stayed for the next hour, which ended up being the best hour of the day.
One Northern Harrier flew by lower over the field to the southwest.
Non-raptor Observations: Lots of goldfinches, starlings and swallows still. A juvenile Cooper's Hawk perched out in front of the platform for a bit, which made the songbirds restless.
2 Common Ravens spotted over the parkway during the 10:00 hour.
Predictions: Cloudy with a chance of rain showers, and cooler temperatures probably means few raptors. But winds are predicted to be WSW 10-20 mph, so some may still move. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Daena D.
