I'm not sure I'd call it a sign of fall, but we had a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers knocking on a telephone pole yesterday, and a single calling its presence this morning.
I used to hear Caspian Terns every few days as they commuted back and forth between (perhaps) the Duwamish area headed toward the Fauntleroy ferry dock or beyond. And there they were this afternoon--a flock of 10+ with their distinctive calls and wing shapes.
