Hello Indiana Birders,

I hope this email finds you well.

I am giving a FREE, public, all-ages presentation in Evansville on
Saturday, October 10 about the Great Horned Owls I have been studying in
the Midwest for the last 20 years. My talk will cover how I found the
owls, basic facts about the species and I will share many photos and videos
shot by me to illustrate the amazing behaviors of these beautiful owls. We
hope you can join us! Here are the details:

Subject: [IN-BIRD-L] Black vultures and warblers Morgan Co.
On this past Wed. Sept. 23rd, we had several groups of black vultures totaling around 40 birds feeding on the ground nearby. The past week we have seen more mixed flocks of black and turkey vultures in the area than normal but never groups of only black vultures alone ground feeding. Yesterday we had the following warblers; Tennessee, magnolia, black-throated green, bay breasted, blackburnian, black and white, and pine. Also ovenbird and common yellow throat. The yellow-throated vireo that was vocal all summer appears to have departed. Doug Johnstone, Martinsville, IN.

The Sunday migration bird walk produced 48 species on September 20, at Ft. Harrison State Park, Indianapolis. It was birdy but the bird took full advantage of hiding behind leaves. Highlights included two Yellow-billed Cuckoos, Blue-headed Vireo, at least four Philadelphia Vireos, two Scarlet Tanagers, and eleven warbler species.
Many warblers were seen well, but briefly, and others were just seen quickly as they flew away. The complete list is shown below. There will be a bird walk each Sunday morning in September and October at Ft. Harrison. Meet at 8am in the NE corner of Delaware Lake parking lot.
